Save the Date: International Conference “Security of Historical Cities”,31 March – 1 April, Split

The main theme of the conference that is scheduled from March 30 to April 1, 2017 in Split, Croatia is perceived in its very title: “Security of Historical Cities”.
Security is an element of everyday life that represents a basic human need, and which has a crucial impact on the quality of life in each community. The International Police Association – the Split-Dalmatia Regional Club (IPA SD) and the Croatian Association of Historic Towns (HUPG), with the support by the OWHC (Organization of World Heritage Cities), Quebec and the MedCities, Barcelona, are organizing a panel of experts, scientists, and practitioners with experience in the organization and improvement of security as a mandatory component of quality lifestyles, especially in areas with distinctive architectural and historical heritage.
There are numerous examples of risks and unacceptable events that directly endanger the security of our cultural heritage, which can cause material damage and can endanger the health and property of residents and visitors. Fortunately, there are valuable ideas and practices that can help preserve the value of our historical heritage and encourage sustainable development. These practices support the coexistence of the past with the present, by taking into account the safety and security of all tangible and intangible issues for all concerned.
