Assembly of the Croatian Association of Historic Towns Held in Split

At the Gothic Hall of the Split City Museum, the 1st session of the Assembly of the Croatian Association of Historic Towns (HUPG) in its new term was held under the title “Cultural and Historical Heritage and Urban Development: Challenges, Risks, Perspectives”.

The participants were welcomed by the President of the Association and Deputy Mayor of the City of Split, Matea Dorčić, who emphasized the importance of cooperation among historic towns in preserving cultural heritage and promoting the sustainable development of urban areas.

During the formal part of the session, the minutes from the previous session, the activity report and the financial report for 2025 were adopted, and a decision was made to admit the Municipality of Barban as a member of the Association.

The central part of the Assembly was dedicated to professional topics related to the protection and development of historic towns.

Dr Ana Šverko from the Institute of Art History – Cvito Fisković Centre spoke about cultural and historical heritage as a development potential. The topic of new construction in protected zones was presented through lectures by Anita Gamulin, Head of the Conservation Department in Split, while Tonći Prodan from the University of Split’s Forensic Science Centre spoke about risk management in protected zones.

As part of the session, the cultural institutions of the City of Split were also presented – the Split City Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the Natural History Museum and Zoo, and the Maritime Museum in Split.

After the official part of the programme, the participants toured the renovated premises of the Split City Museum under the expert guidance of Vesna Bulić Baketić.
