On Friday, the Election Assemblyof the Croatian Association of Historic Towns was held in Klis, where Matea Dorčić, Deputy Mayor of Split, was elected as the new president.
The vice presidents of the Association are the mayors of Rovinj-Rovigno (Emil Nimčević), Šibenik (Željko Burić), Varaždin (Neven Bosilj), and Cres (Marin Gregorović), while Jakov Vetma, Mayor of Klis, was re-elected as Secretary General. The position of Secretary has been taken over by Marina Kuzmanić Petreš from the City of Split.
According to the Association’s Statute, elections are held six months after Local Elections. As a reminder, in 2023, an Extraordinary Election Assembly was held following a period of stagnation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. On that occasion, the presidency was assumed by the City of Rovinj-Rovigno, led by Mayor Dr. Marko Paliaga and Secretary Maria Črnac Rocco, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the revitalization of the Association — a goal that has since been successfully achieved. In a short time, the Association was stabilized, reestablished, and numerous activities were launched. Amendments to the Statute were also adopted, extending the presidential term from two to four years, as two years proved too short for the realization of major projects.
We are confident that the new presidency, led by Matea Dorčić, Deputy Mayor of the City of Split, together with her motivated team, will do much good for our Association and for Croatian historic towns in general.
